Bruno Cortês Barbosa, better known as Bruno Cortês (born March 11, 1987), is a Brazilian association football left back, who plays for Série A club São Paulo.

Career

Professional career

Early career

Born in Rio de Janeiro,[1] he started playing football as a forward in 2006, as part of Arturzinho's squad.[2] He was loaned to Paysandu in 2007, when he played a single game, against Tuna Luso in the Campeonato Paraense.[2]

Bruno Cortês started his professional career defending Qatari club Al-Shahaniya in 2007,[1] moving back to his home country to play for Rio de Janeiro state-based club Castelo Branco from 2008 to 2009,[3] and after leaving the club, he defended Quissamã also from Rio de Janeiro state during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.[1] He joined Nova Iguaçu in 2011, playing 14 Campeonato Carioca games for the club during that season.[4] In March of the same year, Bruno Cortês was offered to play for Remo, but the club rejected the offer.[2]

Botafogo

Rio de Janeiro city-based club Botafogo acquired 50% of his economic rights after the Campeonato Carioca concluded.[5] He played 28 Série A games for the club during the 2011 season.[4] Bruno Cortês played his first Série A game for the club on May 22, 2011, at Estádio Benedito Teixeira, in São José do Rio Preto, when Palmeiras beat his club 2–0.[6] He played his last game as part of Botafogo's squad on December 4, 2011, when his team and Fluminense drew 1-1 at Estádio Raulino de Oliveira, in Volta Redonda, for the last round of the Série A.[7][8]

São Paulo

Bruno Cortês transfer to Série A club São Paulo was announced on December 17, 2011.[5] The contract was signed on December 21 of the same year.[9][10]

International career

Bruno Cortês was called up for the Brazil national team Superclásico de las Américas games against Argentina, to be played on September 14, 2011 at Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, in Córdoba, Argentina,[11] and on September 28, 2011 at Estádio Olímpico do Pará (Mangueirão), Belém, Brazil.[12] He earned his first international cap in the game played on September 28 against Argentina, won by Brazil 2–0.[13]
